Celebrate life on the Day of the Dead
Saludos! Travel to Mexico to experience
a unique tradition and cultural experience, the Day of the Dead. Despite
its name, the Day of the Dead is a joyful occasion that celebrates the
eternal cycle of life. As they say in the southern Mexico city of Oaxaca
“We are not here for a long time, we are here for a good time.”
In Oaxaca, the Day of the Dead traditions remain
authentic and traditional. You will
step into to a world of ancient traditions, archaeology, handcrafts and
cuisine, and have plenty of time to soak up the preparations for Day of
the Dead.
Later in the week, after your step
back in time in Oaxaca, be ready to visit cosmopolitan Mexico City, home
to amazing art, fine dining and incredible nightlife.
Day 1 -October 28th -Mexico City
to Oaxaca / Welcome Dinner
Depart Mexico City on an afternoon
flight Oaxaca, Mexico. Your
hotel overlooks the city, mountains
and valleys of Oaxaca.
This evening your guide, Antonio
will formally welcome you to his
hometown of Oaxaca with dinner and
an introduction to the city’s
Day of the Dead traditions.

Day 2 -October 29th -Oaxaca Valley
Today, a tour of the main sites surrounding
Oaxaca including:
* Santa Maria del Tule, home of
the world's largest tree
* San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya
* San Pablo Mitla, famous for its
pre-Columbian Mesoamerican buildings
* Tour a mezcal factory --learn
about Oaxaca’s own spirit
* Teotitlan Del Valle --famous for
its woolen rugs

& Lunch
Day 3 - October 30th – City Tour
of Oaxaca
Highlights include:
* The Cathedral & Zocalo, the
main square
* Santo Domingo Church (one of the
most beautiful churches in the world)
* Museum of the Cultures, housing
the treasures found in Monte Alban.
* A chocolate factory and two downtown
markets.
* A demonstration of the local music
of Oaxaca.

& Lunch
Day 4 - October 31st - Monte Alban
& Craft Village
Visit Monte Alban, one of the best
pre-Columbian archaeological sites in the world. You’ll also visit the
craft towns of San Martin Tilcajete (carving and painting of wooden animals
known as alebrejes) & San Bartolo Coyotepec (the art of hand-throwing
black pottery). Tonight is the formal beginning of the festival.

Day 5 - November 1st - Free day
Explore Oaxaca and the Day of Dead
activities. Expect family gravesite reunions, candy skulls and calaveras
(skeletons), costumes, candles, chocolate, cigarettes and mezcal. Music,
food and gaiety in honor of the dearly departed.

Day 6 - November 2nd -Free Morning
/ Mexico City
Free morning. Afternoon flight to
Mexico City. Evening guided tour of a few of Mexico City’s huge range of
nightclubs. Be prepared to go out late and come home early--the next morning.

Day 7 -November 3rd -Mexico City.
Mexico City has been called an “enormous
living museum”. Your city tour will include the National Palace, with its
beautiful Diego Rivera murals, Constitution Square (the central plaza or
“Zocalo”) and the metropolitan cathedral as well as some of the main avenues.
You’ll also visit Chapultepec Park, one of the most important residential
areas of Mexico City, in addition to the “pink zone” (Zona Rosa).
Evening farewell dinner, leaving time to explore more of Mexico City’s
nightclubs on your own.

Day 8 - November 4th
Afternoon flights home from Mexico
City.
